I don't know , I just ask for extra sauce. I'm in the process of trying to learn what it is. So I can make it at home. I know I LOVE IT !!!!
We tried two different types of ramen. Neither one satisfied our craving for a good ramen (after a trip to Japan not so long ago). You might have better luck with some of the other dishes. There are many to choose from. Service was attentive and efficient.
They have an extensive dinner menu. Very good sukiyaki. We're not too crazy about their ramen. Fresh sushi. One of our go to Japanese restos in the area.
The sushi was delicious, but we waited over an hour for our takeout.
Bad service, you have to constantly ask for what you need, because they don't check on you. We didn't even get asked what we wanted to drink. Bento box was good. Our ramen wasn't the best. Food is over priced, compared to places I've gone too. We will not be coming back.
Really love the spicy miso ramen and the beef wrapped enoki
Decent priced sushi and very good. Special rolls are little pricier. And tastes fantastic.
Great chief. An great people trying to help all at once. Gets busy, bring patience an love
From the moment you come to that place the waiters give you a great feeling. Very warm hosts, it is a happy restaurant to hang out with friends and colleagues or with your date. heavenly cuisine, talented chef, competitive cost and generous service. Highly recommended.
This spot is great! Reasonable prices, considerable portions and the staff are consistently very kind.
A small restaurant with a small amount of parking available unlike Hoshi Sushi across the street. It is a good place to talk as the room is limited to about 20 customers in the restaurant. Those few accommodations make the restaurant inviting.Unagi don - BBQ eel on rice was a thick cut accompanied with a daikon and orange slices sitting on lettuce. The spices were right and the eel was "tender" but it was stacked together during the cooking process so it made it hard to pull the meat apart.
Went there all-the-way from Santa Rosa to eat "Ramen" but it was worst "Ramen" I've eaten. Soup broth were horrible, noodles were either old or not cooked right and presentation of toppings were shameful. Even "Instant Ramen" in the package are tastier and better. What national owns this place ??? I know that owners are not a Japanese for sure, if I owned eatery like this would not open for business.Even I can make much better ramen soup broth. If there's no star rating, I would. 👿
Our family favorite sushi and udon place. Consistently good quality and fair price. Ingredients are always fresh. Portions are good size too. The staff is friendly. Can't count how many times we have eaten here.
This place does not have good food compared to any other place in the bay and the service was poor. We ordered a bowl of the House Ramen and were very disappointed to find that it tasted like chicken noodle soup. When we informed the server she acknledged that's what we ordered and then took awhile to bring us a menu to order something else. When we got a simple california roll as an alternative the avocados were blackened in parts. At check out we were charged for the ramen and given sass when asking about it. There was no concern that we thought it tasted bad just a mere "oh well your loss" attitude. Will not go back here.
Haven't been here in a number of years. Used to be our go to place for Japanese food. The menu is a bit different with lots of variety. Tried one of the ramen sets. It was just okay. My spouse said the same for her chicken curry. Don't know about the sushi & other menu items at this point.
Not bad, but your tongue is used to certain things. So beware. You like what you like.
Excellent place for Japanese food. Authentic menu. Love their beef curry and the bentos are perfect for lunch. Sushi is always fresh and the specialty rolls will keep you coming back. Beautiful serving staff and very attentive. Chop sticks only, if you need silverware just ask. Kettles could be updated.
Excellent quality fish in the chirashi sushi. Sushi rice nicely lightly seasoned and cooked as it should be. Miso soup delicious, not too salty with a little kombu besides the usual few pieces of tofu and green onions.Hadn't been here since the 90s and will return to try other dishes. So many Japanese restaurants are not operated by Japanese and it shows. But this one, at least with what I've just described, is staying close to true Japanese quality: fresh fish, well balanced miso soup and rice cooked with right amount of water and seasoned nicely for the sushi.Companion's sukiyaki was acceptable.
A great place for classic Homestyle Japanese food. The tempura is crunchy, hot, and not greasy. The ramen and sushi are made with care. The super friendly staff is very attentive.
They have good food. But my go to is the lion king. So tasty!
I celebrated my nomination last night in this great restaurant. happy to tell that it was a fine evening and the restaurant was indeed one of the reasons for this successful gathering. The crew helped in a very nice manner, the meals were tasty and my buddies were so pleased. We shall surely come back again for more celebrations. thanks very much.
The wait staff is very friendly, though not the fastest. Menu is large, and everything that I've tried there so far has been good to excellent.
I love this place, they have a huge selection of options, attentive service and reasonable prices. They serve their iced coffee black with a side of simple syrup and milk so it mixes easy however you like it.
The food and service are amazing..
I was looking for a cheap and affordable lunch and I happened to stumble along this place. It is a cute and nice little space to eat. The food itself was good considering the low prices, however, the bathrooms were hideous! I tried to wash my hands in one of the sink and no water came out, just a little dust sprinkled on my hands. Other than that, this was a great and fun expedience!
There is so many selection. But I usually get the ramen. It's pretty tasty
Lovely staff , great food.
I really like Katana-Ya. There's a lot of Japanese restaurants nearby, and all serve the things I like best: Sushi, Tonkatsu, and Tempura.Katana-Ya excels on the Tonkatsu and is on par with other nearby restaurants on the Sushi and Tempura. But what really sets Katana-Ya apart is their miso soup! It is a step or two above the other nearby restaurants. When it's cold out, I really appreciate the excellence of their miso soup.
Homemade Japanese dishes. I have been going here for more than 10 years and their dishes are consistenly flavorful.
Authentic , quality, happy
Excellent service. They play relaxing instrumental music which add to zen atmosphere for me. I been since 2015, the specialty sushi rolls and ramen are always fresh and yummy.
Amazing restaurant, great variety of food, and wonderful crew
Good food and good service.
I ordered delivery, beef teriyaki $12.95. They increased the price of the item to $16.95 without my consent, and charged my card. The online menu still reflects the lower price, as though it's a bait and switch. This is pretty bad business.
Everything was great. Thank you
Low restaurant with an enormous menu.
Last week was our first time in this fine restaurant. But It is obviously not the last time. We enjoyed the evening very much with the good service, with the excellent cooking and wine and with the friendly pay. We will definitely come back again.
Poor service we had to ask for every little thing, a spoon to eat soup, a fork for salad, to order our food. Food was mediocre had ramen. Was not that great.
One of the better places in the area for sushi, bento, and ramen. Good prices, too.
Ordered a large selection of takeout, just as good as their dine-in. The salmon special was exceptional.
I came here Friday about 20 minutes before They close and they hesitated about Sitting me Once they sat me they rushed me to order and though it was a badd start the food was amazing so I decided to come back today Sunday with my girlfriend and we stood at the door and never got greeted. Horrible hospitality/ customer service even for a busy restaurant. Will not come back here again.
I visit this place a lot since I work right next to it. I must say their customer service is always awesome and they keep the spot well kept consistently. Pricing is convenient and they serve generous portions.
Katana-Ya has been our go to family Japanese restaurant for around 20 years. They are really family oriented, ha e great food, and are really reasonably priced. I'm so glad their still running and plan to continue to be a patron for years to come.
Over priced sushi for nothing THAT special. $14 for tempura and avocado sushi. If your ramen is meat based then you are good but the non-meat items lack major flavor and it is way overpriced for the lack of flavor. Sumo Sushi is WAYYYYY better and not over priced. This placed sucked for me and I’m beyond disappointed.
Good ramen, great tempura, decent sushi. Large menu and fair prices. Big bowls of ramen, large menu with combos and entrees. The dumpling ramen is a good one to try. It can get busy, and they are closed Mondays.
Great restaurant with a wonderful menu! I highly recommend their ramen sets.
Excellent food and prices that are a bargain considering what you get.
Love it love it love it... Great sushi and mind blowing noodles
This is a local El Cerrito hang out for Japanese food. Not the best, but not the worst. The ramen isn't all that great, but somehow I always order it. Sushi is decent, though nothing like Kiku on Gilman.
Great and tasty food, I loved the atmosphere the place has, and the employees were nice. I will definitely come back again.
Always good, always fresh! This is my spot for good sushi. The customer is also excellent, especially when they remember your favorites!
